Over the last few weeks Made for Mermaids has been really busy with loads of swimsuit testing. There have been 4 swimsuits in testing, and a swim cover-up as well. Last week as testing was winding down, I met up with two other local ladies that were testing the Camila suit as well and we got pictures of our girls all in Camila suits. We had such a fun time while the girls ran around the splash pad, and their camera laden moms were snapping pictures.
I never really had a major need to sew swimwear. I always thought that what I bought fit okay. The problem comes when you have tall and skinny kids. All of the suits that I buy my kids from the stores are always way too wide. They never stay up, or are sagging because they need the length, but never really the width. Having swimsuits that fit my kids has been a game changer! I will never go back to store bought suits again!
The Camila suit from Made from Mermaids offers a flounce that can either be made to go under the arms or off the shoulder. It has a ruched side and can be strapless, or have halter or shoulder ties. Like all of Made for Mermaids patterns, this one goes from 1/2 (approximately 9-12m) to 14 sizes. I got both of my fabrics from Peek-a-boo Fabric Shop.
The Pearl cover-up is a skirt with an attached flounce. These cover-ups are similar to the ones that I’ve seen in the stores lately. They remind me of a mermaid tail when they’re worn. I made mine out of swim knit, but this pattern can be made out of other knits as well. All of the swimsuit patterns are on sale until Monday, July 3 for $7.50 each. You can also bundle all of the girl patterns for $21 getting the Pearl cover-up for FREE! Or bundle all of the patterns, with the mama Camila, for $26. That’s 5 patterns for only about $5 each.
